Kim opened the Kim Terry Studio 11 years ago when one of the Houston agents encouraged her to teach acting to kids as well as adults. The Studio held the first classes in a clubhouse and at an elementary school’s YMCA program.

By invitation, Kim went to observe a Showcase in New York, wanting to generate more exposure for her actors in New York and Los Angeles. Instead she was surprised and disappointed by the cost, the sketchy preparation of the Showcase participants, poorly informed parents and actors as to what they should expect, and the small number of VIPs viewing their performances.

Upon returning to Houston, Kim and her partner, Dee Smith, came up with the vision and design for The Kim Terry Studio. They opened a studio here in the Houston Galleria area, and within a few months started planning for their first performance showcase right here in Houston. Kim reached out to her resources and industry colleagues in Texas, Los Angeles, and New York. Showing the industry the undiscovered talent here in Houston was one key element. The first showcase was exceptionally successful, attended by approximately 30 students. Many of those students gained representation by the attending agents in Los Angeles and New York.

Houston’s talented actors enjoyed discovery at last! Some of them are regulars in TV series and won major roles in feature films. Over the next few years, The Kim Terry Studio produced three more very successful showcases. Kim had attained her goal to expose the great talent in Houston and continues to open those doors to her students.

The Kim Terry Studio training, guidance and support are strategic to actors’ connection and establishment in Los Angeles, New York as well as other major markets.

She utilizes her 30+ years in the business helping with tools to take students to the next level in their overall acting skills, making strong choices that show their unique personality (knowing what to look for in scripts that best prepare them to deliver in many different audition situations), and having fun being themselves.

Kim is passionately committed to creating a safe and progressive environment to learn about the acting business.
